Volturnus

…make for a delicious stew. Yeeeehawwwww.

There’s been a lot going on lately, so I haven’t had time for a real update aside from a rant now and then. A few people have asked me about Volturnus, and I haven’t really had many answers. However, this may answer some questions:

When will it be relased? – I have a pre-release version ready to go, but there are some last minute issues that came up. I hate designing pages for IE. It works in FireFox/Opera well enough, but looks like utter crap in IE. This little cosmetic issue is really what’s holding it up.

What else do you have planned? – There’s a whole TODO list for that thing. Aside from IRCd differences, I also want to add a logging system so you can see who changed what and when they did it. It seems silly because you should trust the people who have access to it, but it’s still nice in case someone cracks a password or something. The largest thing is making it all one package and creating an installation and template system.

Where can I download it? – Everything will be on the site when it’s released. There’s no magic hiding place for any of this. There’s a private git repository that I’ll open to the public later on. The site is located at http://www.volturnus.net so stay tuned for updates there.

A few people have even asked some things about FailIRC, which is surprising. I really want to do it right or not at all, so it’s become this massive hack of a design thing. Currently, there is a tiny version of it in C# that I may port over to Java. I never use Windows at home anymore, so it seems pointless to tie myself to that operating system. I’m trying to do this properly, starting with the design and slowly building that into something presentable. I don’t want it to just be some IRC client, I want it to be something I will be happy to use. I know people don’t really like Java, but in reality it would be nice to put effort into something that is truly cross platform. In any given day, I use 3 different operating systems. While showing my insanity, it also shows my need for something that will handle all 3 of these platforms. Since this project was designed with my needs in mind, it makes sense to tailor it to my needs, no? Yay selfishness.

That’s about all I can be bothered to write at this point. I’m sure people stopped reading, so chipmunks.
