So it’s around 4AM and I’ve been up for a solid 36 hours or so. But the good news is I finished my paper and should be done with class for the summer! \o/! That being said, I can return to working on various projects.
FailIRC – Yeah I’m just going to postpone this for a while…I know some people have been waiting for it to be put into SVN and all that, but I don’t really want to put the BS it is now in there and my laptop isn’t very reliable it seems. $750 well spent…I still have a paperweight. This time the CPU fan is out though D:
Anope XMLRPC – Ok, so I’ve made some decent headway on this over the summer, and I hope to have a beta out soonish. My goals are to finish up the nickserv settings and start on chanserv ones. I have some basic memo stuff in there too but this is all untested – I only *think* it will work :D
Anope Modsite – I’ve made a new template for it…trying to integrate it is proving to be no small task. However, I’m grateful for the chance to look over the code in depth again as I try to make things fit together. We’ll see how this goes…last time I tried it didn’t go very well at all! :( I may open this to the public soon to do some beta testing. As it stands now everything is still SQL based – I’m not too sure how to do the LDAP stuff so that will take some more looking into in order to get it working properly with the ldap setup. Will post a TODO list link here soon!
(Still) Unnamed Game – I’ve had some time to think about this in depth, and I’m thinking I may go back to my original idea. Having a space themed game would be cool and all, but it’ hard to compete with things like ogame. I had an idea a few years ago that I might try to implement again…if I could pull that off it would be sweet. I won’t go into detail here since I want to wait and see if it will be possible…but the original idea was quite epic! This still needs a new template as well.
I’ve also been talking with a friend regarding a Java project. I have to take a course on Java this Fall, so I figured I would learn it this summer instead of having to learn it in the Fall while I take an upper level Visual Basic course as well. Not sure where it will go, but it should be interesting if it ever gets off the ground. More on that when there’s actually something worth seeing.
I redid the SwiftBNC layout because the one I made before was a bit crappy (: Check it out at http://www.swiftbnc.com
I’m sure there’s something I’m forgetting, but sleep deprivation makes for painful thoughts at 4AM.
So yeah. VPS is down until further notice, which means development on various things comes to a standstill. Sad faces. However, the guys at ezVPS (free plug for being awesome) seem to be working overtime to get that taken care of for all of their customers. All things considered, I can’t complain too much since the cause of this was beyond their control. Keep up the good work fellas!
Anyway, I’ll still update on what I would be doing if I had access to stuff!
Anope modsite – This is still coming along rather nicely. It still needs a better way to store the modules though. I’m wondering the best way to go about this. Currently, the module files are stored in a directory and the path to the files are stored in the database. Unfortunately, this means you have to use Linux to host the site and be on the exact user that the site is currently hosted on. Ideally I’ll make this beast a bit more portable. The bug tracker part works…I think. I’ll be putting the beta up soonish (sometime next month) for people to play with. Hopefully that will iron out some kinks.
Unnamed game – I’ve ironed out a few of the bugs and added some more design work to it. I also added an IRC chat client! I’m not a huge Mibbit fan, so I opted to add qwebirc to it instead. It’s light, fast, and I’m pleased with it. The next task is to include the user name of the player so that it becomes their nickname on IRC. However this might get interesting for people who decide to make users that start with numbers or other crazy characters. I’ll have to think of a way to check for the first character being a number or the whole nick containing non-RFC compliant characters. Wheeeeeeee. I think I have a name for this as well…I’m going to ask around and see what people think.
Business – Business is booming, but I still haven’t registered my business with the state. Whoops. Oh well…as long as I file taxes they won’t care! The admin panel for this thing is becoming beastly. Hopefully I can have that done soon as well. I’ve finally decided on the name as well since the other options I had in my head were taken.
FailIRC – I’ll admit I haven’t worked on this one bit. There are some crazy bugs that need to be fixed such as the window clearing randomly when someone PMs you. Once I wrap all that up and finalize how i want the GUI to look, it will be ready to beta test!
I’d also like to point out that SwiftBNC ( http://www.swiftbnc.com ) is back up and running! They also feature a spiffy new design done by me ;) If you’re looking for a BNC provider, check there and tell them I sent you! It won’t get you anything special, but it will make me happy. There will be a few design tweaks done on my end…whether or not they get implemented on theirs is up to them :P
There are a few more little things I have on my plate before school starts. I’m just ready to graduate. I graduate in December with my bachelors and probably next summer for the masters! Exciting. I think I’m most looking forward to not having to share a room/apartment with people. College kids piss me off. :/
That being said, stay tuned for new developments in various things.
No, not being cheeky. That’s really what this post is about.
After some research into other online text-based games, it seems that people REALLY like space games. I think it’s best to go in that direction. Who knows? I may eventually go back to my original idea that I won’t disclose here because of thieves! BACK FOUL BEASTS! o.O
I’m slightly annoyed…this is going to take more work than I had planned. The PHP works and all, however some of it is poorly done. Trying to customize it is proving to be a nightmare. For example, this script has different styles declared in each file that all look the same so if you change the style in the header file (no, not linked. It’s actually declared in the header) then it doesn’t change the style in the registration page. They all seem to have their own headers/footers and look exactly the same. What gives? Simple things like editing a menu to look pretty have proven a bit difficult as well. If you do any web development stuff, you’ve probably used JavaScript at some point. Simple, right? Not so much when the code you’re trying to put it in has about 5 pages of if statements that aren’t clearly laid out. Sigh.
I’ve had some interesting computer problems lately. Installing Vista SP2 on my computer proved to be fatal to it. I was unable to boot it, chkdisk failed, and it was telling me I should probably restore it. Well, I just did that like 2 weeks ago…I’m not all about doing it again :) It redeemed itself though because it created a restore point literally right before I installed SP2. Vista may not be as stupid as I thought! However after round two my wireless stopped working. I’m now the proud owner of an HP Paperweight until I get it fixed.
