So it’s around 4AM and I’ve been up for a solid 36 hours or so. But the good news is I finished my paper and should be done with class for the summer! \o/! That being said, I can return to working on various projects.
FailIRC – Yeah I’m just going to postpone this for a while…I know some people have been waiting for it to be put into SVN and all that, but I don’t really want to put the BS it is now in there and my laptop isn’t very reliable it seems. $750 well spent…I still have a paperweight. This time the CPU fan is out though D:
Anope XMLRPC – Ok, so I’ve made some decent headway on this over the summer, and I hope to have a beta out soonish. My goals are to finish up the nickserv settings and start on chanserv ones. I have some basic memo stuff in there too but this is all untested – I only *think* it will work :D
Anope Modsite – I’ve made a new template for it…trying to integrate it is proving to be no small task. However, I’m grateful for the chance to look over the code in depth again as I try to make things fit together. We’ll see how this goes…last time I tried it didn’t go very well at all! :( I may open this to the public soon to do some beta testing. As it stands now everything is still SQL based – I’m not too sure how to do the LDAP stuff so that will take some more looking into in order to get it working properly with the ldap setup. Will post a TODO list link here soon!
(Still) Unnamed Game – I’ve had some time to think about this in depth, and I’m thinking I may go back to my original idea. Having a space themed game would be cool and all, but it’ hard to compete with things like ogame. I had an idea a few years ago that I might try to implement again…if I could pull that off it would be sweet. I won’t go into detail here since I want to wait and see if it will be possible…but the original idea was quite epic! This still needs a new template as well.
I’ve also been talking with a friend regarding a Java project. I have to take a course on Java this Fall, so I figured I would learn it this summer instead of having to learn it in the Fall while I take an upper level Visual Basic course as well. Not sure where it will go, but it should be interesting if it ever gets off the ground. More on that when there’s actually something worth seeing.
I redid the SwiftBNC layout because the one I made before was a bit crappy (: Check it out at http://www.swiftbnc.com
I’m sure there’s something I’m forgetting, but sleep deprivation makes for painful thoughts at 4AM.
I’ll admit to being somewhat useless this week. School has to take priority ya know! There’s a 10 page paper draft due this week as well as an exam…needless to say I don’t have a lot of time. The semester is over soon though and I can go back to wasting my life!
Anope modsite – No new changes, no new thoughts really. A facelift is in order, but that can wait until the back end of things is finished!
FailIRC – I’ve been thinking about this, and I may just do it in C/C++ so that it works on multiple systems. That kinda goes against the reason I made it in the first place though :/ We shall see! I would still like it to be my replacement for mIRC since I’ve grown to dislike it over the years, but I’m rarely on Windows these days it seems so I’d never use it! That makes it seem pointless.
Anope mainsite – I’ve been playing around with a template for this since the current one has been like that for ages. However, I’m not sure if I want to keep the current color scheme or change it. I also haxed up the main page to show the news so that people don’t have to click it. I have a feeling people will actually read it now if it’s in their face like that. Go read the news!
Unnamed Game – I should really finalize a name for this thing so I can start calling it something other than the game. Not a lot has been done with this since the addition of the chat. Still wondering how to balance this out so that certain items and things aren’t too powerful.
Anope XMLRPC – I got a fair amount of work done on this. The PHP needed to be cleaned up and there was an error in registration that I thought I had fixed. Apparently I hadn’t! I need to think of what else I’d like for this thing to do. Right now I’m trying to get a list of botserv bots so that people can add/remove/assign/unassign from the control panel. Not sure though…this might leave room for abuse! I’ll need to make sure I’m logging these events :S Might be cool to send them to the log channel as well :) In reflecting on it though, it may be easier to just create this service by service…I may just stick to nickserv for now.
Anope CID – I finally got this working again as well. Basically what it does is track session information for clients. You can then look up this information on a nifty website. More to come on that. Eventually, I’d like to work it into the XMLRPC pages so that it will be a mini control panel for the whole network. That makes for a really huge module though…not sure how many people would be bothered with setting it all up.
Well that about wraps that up I suppose. I’ll have something more interesting to say regarding at least one of these after I get all of my school crap out of the way.
So the VPS was brought back online a few days ago…no data loss! But needless to say, I’m a bit more careful about my backups now.
In recent Anope news, we lost another QA person :( What does this mean? This means that only Chaz and I remain…scary thought, no? It also means that I’m gonna bust my ass to find some contributors – we can’t do this alone! If you’re interested, contact me. There’s plenty to do @ http://www.anope.org/qa-todo.php – pick one!
Anope modsite – I’ve decided that there will be 4 groups: User, Author, Team, and Admin. The Users group will be allowed to leave comments, rate modules, and upload modules. I’m trying to get away from having everyone request Author status without actually producing modules. It works, but I think we’re going to go for something a little more prestigious. Module Author status will be reserved for people who have produced a few quality modules and their votes will also help with a new community approval system. I haven’t really thought about any requirements – feel free to send me some! The current admin panel doesn’t afford much control over users/submissions, so I’ve added some links that will allow Admins/Team to add, update, and delete modules and users so that we can have a bit more control over things. I’ve only done the search queries…nothing too serious. I moved the logging feature as well since it takes up a fair amount of space and makes the page rather long :P Somehow I managed to break the bug tracker as well. It saves bugs but with some weird information. It will obviously be something stupid I did, so I’ll have to track that down.
Game site – The webchat now includes the username of the player in the nickname field so that users don’t have to type one in. All they have to do is click connect and it drops them into the channel. I also changed some of the items and areas to have more of a space theme. Since the old setup was a bit generic, it’s going to take a bit of time to tailor things to my theme. I’m still pondering the best way to do leveling and skills. I’ve decided there will be unlimited levels, but how can I balance the skills (what do I call the skills for that matter?) so that there’s a balance of power? Same with the items…not sure how people will obtain those. There are a few ideas I have: have a cron that runs a script that picks a person in each area daily (maybe a few people if the game gets big) and give them a random item from their area OR have an exploration feature where users can explore space and find things. Maybe they can explore the surface of the planet. I also want to have an exploration feature that allows people to explore certain percentages of the surface and research things. Hmm…
FailIRC – Still haven’t done anything with this. It’s pretty much on hiatus until some of these larger projects get finished.
Happy 4th to America…thank God we got away from the Brits! Else we’d talk like cockney noobs :<
